  • 66th Republic Day celebrated.

    - January 26, 2015 marked India's 66th Republic Day. US President Barack Obama became the first American President to be a chief guest at India's Republic Day parade. Barack broke security protocol of not being in open air for more than 45 minutes by sitting at the venue for over two hours.
  • RK Laxman no more.

    RK Laxman, probably India's most famous cartoonist, breathed his last on January 26 at the Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune, at the age of 93. He was famed for his common man cartoons in The Times of India and also for illustrating his brother RK Narayan's books. He's a Padma Vibhushan and a Magsaysay awardee.
  • DP Sinha is India's new security secretary.

    Intelligence Bureau Special Director DP Sinha was appointed as the security secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat. The post was vacant since November 2013.
  • K Durga Prasad becomes special DG of CRPF.

    GoI appointed K Durga Prasad as the special Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
  • Paulina Vega crowned Miss Universe.

    Colombia's Paulina Vega was crowned the Miss Universe for the year 2014. The broadcast of the pageant had been delayed by a year in an attempt to obtain a wider television audience.
  • Leftist Alexis Tsipras is new Greek PM.

    Alexis Tsipras, a left wing leader, became the new Prime Minister of Greece. The 40 year old has become the youngest Greek Prime Minister in history.
