  • GoI sells off 10% stake in Coal India Limited.
    -
    Struggling to contain the fiscal deficit as per the budget targets, the Government of India divested 10% of its stake in India's largest coal producer. The stake sale was oversubscribed 1.05 times, and is rumoured to have fetched the exchequer over Rs. 23,000 crore.- This was the biggest ever stake sale by any public or private sector company. Previously also, the record was held by CIL, with a stake sale fetching Rs. 15,000 crores, in 2010.
  • Krishna Chaudhary is new ITBP chief.

    IPS Krishna Chaudhary is set to take over as the new Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Police Force (ITBP).
  • Jayanthi Natarajan quits Congress

    Former Union Minister Jayanthi Natarajan resigned from the Indian National Congress (INC) citing ideological differences.
    - She has been in news for accusing Rahul Gandhi of trying to interfere in her ministerial decisions. This happened after her letter to Sonia Gandhi dating back to November was published by The Hindu.
    - She was the Environment Minister in the UPA-2 regime.
  • Swachh Bharat commemorative stamps released.

    India Post has come up with  a set of commemorative stamps on the theme of Swachh Bharat, in a bid to provide impetus to the Swachchata Abhiyan launched by the NDA government on October 2, 2014.
  • Anti-Leprosy day observed.

    Anti Leprosy Day is observed on January 30 every year to increase awareness about the aforementioned disease.
  • India observes Martyrs' day.

     Zimbabwe's president Robert Mugabe was appointed the chairman of the African Union. The Union, headquarted in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa,  has 54 member nations.
